THE BRITISH ARMY IN MANDATORY PALESTINE.

Larger-than-usual format photographs of British military action in Palestine.

[Photograph album, Palestine, c. 1936-1939.] 71 photographs (various sizes from 181 x 230 mm. to 77 x 60 mm.) 17 leaves, oblong large 4to (230 x 335 mm.), (3 photographs missing). Original green cloth, string ties (extremities lightly rubbed).

A collection of photographs, many of a large size, probably taken during the period of the Arab rebellion, perhaps compiled by a member of the 1st Battalion Essex Regiment between 1936-1939. Including a series of 5 photographs showing an Arab house being evacuated and blown up by the British, a tactic of suppression still used in the region to this day. Interestingly, these images show Arabs being made to carry the crates of dynamite themselves. Also shown are British military exercises as well as shooting expeditions and local fishing methods.
