THE BRITISH IN MANDATORY PALESTINE.

Large-format images of Palestine, including aerial photographs.

[Photograph album, Palestine, c. 1940.] 244 photographs (from 90 x 115 mm. to full-page and double-page panoramas), most with manuscript annotations, mounted on 42 leaves, oblong folio (250 x 350 mm.), 1 loosely inserted. (1 leaf loose, a few leaves creased or slightly torn). Contemporary Perspex covers, string tie (lightly rubbed).

RARE AND UNUSUAL PHOTOGRAPHS OF PALESTINE AND LEBANON INCLUDING LARGE SCALE AERIAL SHOTS. The majority are photographs of Palestine, including shots of tourist locations in Jerusalem such as Tel Aviv Zoo. However, this album also contains a number of special large scale aerial shots of various locations across Palestine and Lebanon. These include: Tel Aviv, Jaffa, the Trappist Monastery at Latrun, Majdal Yabba, the RAF base at Petah Tiqva, Modern Jerusalem, Baalbek, the Khalda Falls, and the Jordan valley. Of special significance for its rarity is a double-page panorama (12 x 645 mm.) joining 10 separate aerial photographs to produce 1 view of the west coast of Lake Tiberias (Sea of Galilee), with annotations labelling the Deganiya kibbutz and Tiberias. These aerial photographs, as well as a number of smaller scale aerial shots, were probably taken by a British serviceman aboard an RAF plane.
