Speculum animae peccatricis. [Paris: Antoine Caillaut, c.1494].

Very rare edition, known in only two other copies [BnF and Tours], of a highly popular ascetic work. All early editions are anonymous, and it has been falsely attributed to Dionysius Carthusiensis due to its own claim of having been edited by a Carthusian. The Carthusian is now recognised as either Jacobus de Gruytrode, prior of the Charterhouse of the Twelve Apostles near Liège, or Jacobus de Jüterborg, Carthusian at Erfurt. Pellechet 4312; CIBN S-336; ISTC is00646500.

Chancery quarto (197 x 137mm). 25 leaves (of 26, without first blank). Opening initial illuminated, rubricated in red and blue, printed guide-letters, apparent fold at time of printing in b5v (minor repairs in lower margin of first leaf). Late 19th-century roan-backed boards, spine lettered in gilt (lightly rubbed at extremities). Provenance: early marginal annotations, early inscription erased from first leaf.
