詳情
SCHÖNER, Johann (1477-1547). Globi Stelliferi sive sphaerae stellarum fixarum usus. Nuremberg: [J. Petreius], 1533.

A very rare copy of Schöner's work on celestial globes, published to accompany his own 1533 celestial globe. Schöner, one of the most important globe makers of the 16th century, produced his first pair of globes in 1515-1517; a set of printed gores for his 1517 celestial globe exists in the 'Schöner Sammelband' in the library at Schloss Wolfegg, Württemberg, Germany. The earliest extant celestial globes made up from printed gores are two copies of Schöner's 1533 productions (one at the Royal Astronomical Society, London, and the other at the Germanisches Nationalmuseum, Nuremberg), for which this volume is the explanatory text. We have been only able to trace only one copy of this book at auction (Sotheby's, 3 May 1971, lot 226; ABPC/RBH). Sabin 77801; Van der Krogt Globii Neerlandici, pp.32-33; V-16 S-3469.

Quarto (195 x 140 mm). 28 leaves, A-G4 with A2 mis-signed A3, errata on G4r. Full-page woodcut of a globe on verso of the title, woodcut diagram on G3 verso (sometime washed). Modern olive green morocco by Lobstein-Laurenchet, marbled endpapers, gilt edges.
