詳情
WISDEN, John (1826-1884). Cricketers' Almanack for 1871. London: John Wisden, 1871.

Eighth edition, in the original wrappers with the spine completely intact. It records Gloucestershire's 'brief but brilliant season in 1870, winning every match the Eleven played. There was no county club then in existence, the matches being arranged by, and played under ... W.G. Grace.' The section on Kent cricket ends on p.113 with a tribute to Fuller Pilch, who 'died at Canterbury, May 1st 1870 ... Aged 67 years. He played for Kent from 1836 to 1854. Pilch was the greatest batsman of his time, and the finest forward player known.' The death of 'poor George Summers,' following a blow on the head from a short delivery at Lord's, is also noted.

Octavo (160 x 102mm). 152pp. (Title and first quire spotted, thereafter the spotting much less significant and scattered, mainly confined to top margin.) Original printed wrappers (front cover somewhat spotted, rear wrapper spotted at top right-hand corner in blank area but also adhering to to final text leaf affecting a few words).
