La Connoissance des Pavillons ou Bannieres, que la plûpart des nations arborent en mer. Amsterdam: Jacques van den Kieboom, 1737.

A finely-coloured copy of a rare work illustrating and describing 214 flags used by shipping. The flags are of the various maritime nations as well as the numerous mercantile companies of the period. RBH records only 2 copies at auction in over 50 years. The work is sometimes ascribed to Nicolas Aubin (see Bayerische Staatsbibliothek, Munich). Polak 1883.

Quarto (246 x 190mm). Title in red and black, 90 hand-coloured engraved plates of flags, one uncoloured text engraving (pale offset stain in first 2 leaves, faint spotting in last few plates). Modern vellum, red spine label, red edges. Provenance: F.C. Koch, Rotterdam (bookplate; sale Hamburg, 11 December 1974).
