WISDEN – Cricketers' Almanack for 1903, edited by Sydney H. Pardon. London: John Wisden and Co., 1903.

Eighth hardback edition, 40th in the series, recording a sensational England win. Against the odds, which at one point had been 50-1 on an Australian victory, England secured the the fifth Test match at the Oval by a last gasp one-wicket win. ‘Some truly wonderful hitting by Jessop made victory possible after hope had seemed gone, and Hirst and Rhodes got their side home at the close.’

Octavo (164 x 101mm). Mounted photographic plate (plate with a few light marks, but otherwise a fine, clean copy). Original publisher’s hardback cloth, lettered in gilt on upper cover and spine, original printed yellow wrappers used as endpapers (covers with faint string indentations at edges, extremities lightly rubbed). Provenance: ink inscription on final ad. for Pears 'this is soap, not a cricket ball'.
