Lot Essay

The arms are those of Jan Albert Sichterman (1692-1764), who was a Director of the Dutch East India Company and Governor of Bengal from 1734-1744. Dr. Jochem Kroes identifies four services with these arms. A teapot of this service is illustrated in his publication: Dr. J. Kroes, Chinese Armorial Porcelain for the Dutch Market, Zwolle, 2007, p. 201, cat. no. 115.
