The canvas has been subject to relining; it is held under tension and remains stable. The painting presents well in natural light, with the modeling of the composition well preserved. There has been some thinning to the impasto as a result of the relining process. There is a fine pattern of craquelure across the surface. The paint remains stable. In raking light there appears to have been some retouching to the background and the dark draperies. There is an historic varnish that carries some dirt. Examination under UV light is impaired by the cloudy varnish. There is a horizontal line of retouching to the table cloth. There is evidence of the aforementioned retouchings to the dark colours.
