The canvas has been subject to relining; it is held under tension and remains stable. The surface of the painting shows evidence of heat damage. There is an historic yellowed varnish that carries some dirt. There is evidence of scattered retouchings, notably to the upper left quadrant. Examination under UV light reveals some retouching to the white chicken. There is a cloudy varnish that precludes a more in depth examination. The paint is stable.
