The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The canvas has been subject to relining; it is held under tension and remains stable. The painting presents well in natural light, with the modeling of the fruit well preserved. There has been some thinning to the upper paint glazes, likely as a result of the relining process, notably in the brown tones. There is evidence of some minor scattered retouching, notably to the centre of the pears. Examination under UV light confirms the aforementioned retouching. There is further retouching to the background, the support on which the fruit sits and to the basket. There is an old, yellowed varnish that has been partially cleaned. The paint remains stable.
