The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
This item is in good condition.
The body has shrunk slightly causing the brass band (the purpose of which is to secure the lid) to buckle a little and it has been resecured, the lid no longer fits within the band, this has also caused a small section of the mahogany to spilt and there are slight losses to the upper edge of the body. There is a crack along the back of the cylinder and the brass is tarnished. All joins around apron are visible.
Four blocks are lacking from the base and there is some evidence of re-gluing. There are some chips to the veneer to the lower edge of the brass-band and there is some repair to the lid which has had two later screws added to the inside.
Overall minor scratching, marks and wear consistent with age and use.
Structurally sound and useable.
