The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The canvas has been subject to relining; it is held under tension and remains stable. Examination in natural light shows some flattening to the paint surface as a result of the relining process. There is evidence of minor scattered retouching overall. Examinaton under UV light confirms this, notable to the left edge, in the horse's head and in the background around the horse. There has been some strengthening to the outlines of the two gentlemen to the left. The paint is stable.
