The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The canvas has been subject to relining, it is held under tension and remains stable. The painting presents well in natural light with the detail of the foreground foliage, the jug and the woman's costume well preserved. There is a fine pattern of craquelure in areas, with some very minor associated scattered paint losses. There appears to have been some retouching to the upper right hand corner. Examination under UV light cannot confirm this, as there is an obscuring varnish in this area. However, some very minor scattered retouchings can be seen in the lower right hand corner and centre, and there is an indication of an older restoration campaign in the background to the left edge. The figure seems to be in a good state of preservation.
