The canvas has been subject to relining, it is held under tension and remains stable. Examination in natural light shows some distinct thinning to the paint layers, with associated loss in clarity to the composition. Scattered retouching is present over all. Examination under UV light confirms this; the retouching is most notable to the figural group, lower centre and in the left-hand half of the composition, where there is also evidence of several repaired tears to the canvas. The paint is stable.
