Rectangular with flush overhanging cover, the fan in gold takamaki-e, depicting a kirin [mythological animal] outlined in silver and details inlaid in coral and mother-of-pearl, the cover edges in somada-style with a geometric motif, the reverse decorated in takamaki-e, togidashi-e and nashiji with three Chinese boys playing with peonies in a field, the interior with scattered peonies on a mura-nashiji ground, the silver suiteki [water dropper] in the form of hanabishi design, with tomobako [original wooden box]
