The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
The painting is executed on panel, which has been cradeled. There are a number of vertical cracks with associated retouchings visible in the panel that are the result of the cradeling process. The panel remains stable. In natural light retouching can be seen to the green background and table cloth. There has been some thinning to the blacks of the costume, though the patterning of the embroidery at the edges of the jacket remains fully appreciable. The modeling of the face and hands remains well preserved. Examination in UV light confirms all the aforementioned restorations and retouchings.
