Lot Essay
Léonard Boudin was particularly renowned for the quality of his masterful inlay, a skill he learned while apprenticed to the ébéniste, Pierre II Migeon (d. 1758). In 1772, he began retailing furniture from premises on the rue Fromenteau, and five years later he moved to the cloister of Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois. As a marchand-ébéniste, his stamp is often found alongside that of RVLC, Evald, Denizot and Gilbert, indicating that Boudin retailed these pieces on behalf of these ébénistes.

Condition report
A Christie's specialist may contact you to discuss this lot or to notify you if the condition changes prior to the sale.
The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.
Overall in generally good condition. The marble with scattered surface scratches, natural inclusions, and veining. The veneer with scattered losses, buckling, and lifting, would recommend resecuring. Some scattered patches and restoration throughout, particularly to the tambour doors where the largest patch is approx. 1 in. The tambour doors slightly tight and difficult to open. As mentioned one later fitted with two drawers below a shelf, the other currently not fitted. The ormolu mounts with some minor wear, rubbing, and tarnish as to be expected. Some sabots slightly loose. One with some damage to the rear left leg making it slightly loose. One with replaced locks to the writing slide and lowest drawer. With one key which only works for the replaced locks.
