The interior canvas completely discoloured grey at one end, with general dirt marks, several water marks and a few brown stains most likely rust marks from interior pins, a few small tears and losses, some light grey foxing, creasing and bubbling of canvas, the canvas is peeling in places predominately around the top edges, the canvas around the lock missing exposing the lock back; the lid with several large water marks; the label damaged; the exterior canvas heavily stained and discoloured in places, several areas of loss, cracking and several areas of wear, the binding in similar condition with areas of wear, cracking and small losses, the brass with some tarnising, the corners with several dents, nicks and scratches, one travel sticker to the right hand end, the exterior has a shiny appearance and might have been previously lacquered.
