The condition of lots can vary widely and the nature of the lots sold means that they are unlikely to be in a perfect condition. Lots are sold in the condition they are in at the time of sale.

The exterior canvas is very clean and may have been subject to previous cleaning, there are a few small scuffs and scratches, one dark circular stain to the right hand end, some fraying along hingel the brass is scuffed and scratched, the corners with extensive dents, polished to a mirror finish; the composite binding with a few dents, scratches and scuffs, some areas of retouching, has a varnished appearance; the handle both in good condition, some scuffs and scratches, cracking and discolouration through use, the fitting for the leather strap is broken in one place; the key turns in the lock but may not be an original is stamped '76 CHEAPSIDE, HORSE & CO'; the interior with several watermarks, the canvas on the base heavily stained light grey, some foxing, the canvas is split in places, some bubbling, slight damage around the lock, canvas is peeling along the edges, the padded lid with some brown discolouration, two small holes to the lower left corner, watermarks, rust stains along edges, canvas split and fraying along hinge; handles replaced.
