“To the casual observer, rocks are rocks. But we’d spent enough time in the field, and geologist Lee Silver had had us get suites of rocks and tell the difference between all of these. Well they all looked the same to me, but after a while they don’t look the same... So you get on the Moon, and you look around, and they’re all different. Because you’re tuned, and you got a second, third, fourth differentiation in your mind, because you’re looking at shape, size, texture, and all those things that you’ve become familiar with,” noted David Scott (Chaikin, Voices, p.80).

165:34:04 Irwin: Joe (Allen at Mission control), I’m documenting another rock here that looks fairly representative of what’s on the surface here.

This superb photograph shows great details of the boulders and the surface.

165:39:29 Irwin: That’s a big rock there!
165:39:31 Scott: It sure is. Hurry up. Get a picture.
