The LM was at a low altitude of 15km when the crew took this photograph looking south west with the 60mm lens. Littrow mountains are visible in the left background. Latitude / longitude: 22 N 30 E.

The astronauts took this picture as the crew were at an altitude of about 12 km over the landing site with the 60mm lens.
The 2.4 km St George Crater (bottom left) is next to meandering Hadley Canyon. The 800-m Pluton Crater in the North Complex is at the bottom right of the frame.

“The flights have given us a chance to get away from the Earth and look back to see what a finite object the Earth is, smaller than we ever imagined. Even in terms of other planets, we’re sitting here on a pretty small island. I think the environmental thrust we’re going through is kind of a result of that. We realize now that the atmosphere around us is very fragile and thin, and we have to do what we can to protect it,” said Alfred Worden (Schick and Van Haaften, p. 108).
