“An enlarged view from frame 0076 Roll 15 of the Itek panoramic camera. An unusual combination of straight depressions within a lunar farside crater create a design similar to the peace symbol. The area shown is 24.5° S 172.5° E” (NASA caption).

“This crater was named for Aristarchus of Samos, a Greek astronomer of the 3rd century B.C. It is one of the brightest spots on the nearside, probably due to the high reflectivity of the boulders and other ejected materials that litter the area. These boulders or blocks, some as large as 300 feet, can be seen on the slopes, floor, and rim of the crater. The crater is about 25 miles in diameter and two miles deep, and has a central peak about 1,000 feet high” (Itek caption).
Latitude / longitude: 23.7°N 47.4°W.
