[Large Format] Alan Shepard exploring Fra Mauro with the MET, station A, January 31-February 9, 1971, EVA 2
A frame from the panoramic sequence taken by Mitchell at station A.
“A fine example of the range and tone and detail that can be recorded in lunar surface photographs when they are carefully exposed under optimum conditions, and of the myriad of tasks facing the astronaut in a very limited time. Shepard is fixing an extension handle to a geological core tube for sampling the top layers of the lunar surface. The small transporter which was pulled or pushed by the astronauts during their geological traverses can scarcely be seen for equipment; geological tools and sample bags are attached everywhere. At the extreme left is the tall handle of a color close-up stereo camera and just to one side of Shepard’s right shoulder is the battery-powered movie camera on a staff” (Arnold, plate 129).
