96 a “Baja California, Mexico, from Punta San Marcial (bottom right) to Punta Arena on the Gulf of California. The Pacific Ocean is in the upper right corner. Off the coast near Bahia de la Paz are the islands of San Jose (center) and Esperitu Santo (upper right)” (NASA SP-129, p. 176).
030:03:07 Cooper: 20:03:30 (GMT), first picture at 18. 030:03:38 Cooper: Second picture at 14.
96 b Pete Conrad captured this rare view over “the mouth of the silt-laden Yangtze River on the coast of mainland China (left), with Shanghai in the lower center of the picture. The river flow pattern and disposition rate seen here can be traced for over 75 miles as the river effluent mixes with the China Sea” (NASA SP- 129, p. 178).
“We got some pretty good shots of the Yangtze River dumping tons of mud in the Pacific Ocean. That was back in the days when people didn’t realize the extent of what happened to silt when it came down those rivers. It also helped oceanographers get a little better idea of the currents, before they had sensors to pick up that kind of information,” said Pete Conrad (Schick and Van Haaften, p. 46).
96 c This first frame from magazine 4 (which was rarely used GAF Super Anscochrome D-50 color reversal film) was lightstruck (as seen to the right of picture) when operating the Hasselblad camera.
“The Gulf of Kutch on the western coast of India. To the right lies the Ran of Kutch, a swampy area; to the left is the Kathiawar Peninsula. The City of Jamnagar is located on the Gulf at left center” (NASA SP-129, p. 193).
96 d The photograph shows Japan, Ise Wan, Port of Nagoya Osaka far left.
105:57:17 Cooper: Roger, I just said we’re getting a good look at Japan right now. It’s some of the best weather we’ve ever had. 105:57:25 Capcom (Mission Control): Roger. Copy. 105:57:27 Cooper: It’s very pretty down there.
96 e The first photograph shows a “near-vertical view of the northwestern tip of Nepal and southern Tibet. The peak just below the center of picture, Gurla Mandhata lies 25335 feet above sea level” (NASA SP-129, p. 211).
The second photograph shows “the border of Kashmir and mainland China. Tsho (lake) Ngompa leads from bottom center into Nyak Tsho (lake) near the center. The lake near the upper left edge is Sarigh-Yilganing Kol in Kashmir. In the right foreground is Shaldat Tsho, amid mountains of the Kailas Range” (NASA SP-129, p. 215).
96 f The first photograph shows Egypt, Cairo, Nile Delta.
The second photograph shows the coast Morocco south of Agadir, Spanish Ifni with a storm over the Atlantic Ocean. The Anti Atlas Mountains appear on the bottom.
The third photograph shows “the southwest African coast. Walvis Bay is the northernmost (left) of the three capes shown here. Longitudinal sand dunes in the right of the picture are bounded by the Kuiseb River” (NASA SP-129, p. 248).
