‘The Indicator’ automatic chronograph by Eterna for Porsche Design reference P’6910 is without doubt the King of Porsche Design watches. Ultra-exclusive, only between 2 and 4 pieces are made per year and production will be limited to only 50 watches in total over the entire production period.
In true Porsche Design tradition, the impressive 48 mm diameter case is machined from titanium. The Indicator chronograph is regarded as one of the most successful of modern watch designs in being highly functional and easy to read yet managing to project both a retro and contemporary vibe simultaneously.
The black ‘honeycomb’ dial with bold Arabic numerals and oversized arrow hands lends a distinct military feel to the watch. The chronograph itself is operated in the usual way, however, it is the jumping digital display for the chronograph minute and hour registers that gives the ‘Indicator’ model its name. The watch also features a subsidiary seconds dial with large arrow hand and a visually mesmerizing display with a red and white disc beneath three apertures so that as the seconds run the colour changes constantly from red to white. In a similar manner, the power reserve indicator changes from green to red as the power runs down and back up to green again once the watch is wound.
Visible through the sapphire crystal back, the automatic movement is beautifully finished with the same honeycomb pattern as the dial. Although constructed from an ETA base, the movement is so heavily modified by Eterna with over 400 new parts, that it can be classed as an in-house production. The titanium rotor is designed to resemble an automobile wheel and is weighted with gold.
