De Bethune, established in 2002 by David Zanetta and Denis Flageollet, quickly gained prominence in the watchmaking world by combining exceptional design with cutting-edge scientific innovations. The brand’s designs, which appear simple yet elegant, highlight the complexity of the materials and techniques used in crafting their timepieces. Producing only a limited number of watches each year, De Bethune follows a philosophy of creating superior quality over quantity, drawing inspiration from the past to continuously evolve.
The DB 25 is a prime example of De Bethune’s dedication to blending technological advancements with traditional craftsmanship. Its silicon escapement and the "3D" moonphase display are key demonstrations of the brand's commitment to innovation. The silicon balance spring, a standard feature in all De Bethune timepieces, is a crucial element in their design, offering an alternative to traditional materials by enhancing efficiency and reducing energy loss in the movement.
The moon phase display of the DB 25 takes inspiration from the original designs of early watchmakers, who initially created 3D moon phase displays. However, they later switched to the flatter version to reduce the size and height of the movement. The moon at the 12 o'clock position is crafted from two hemispheres of steel and palladium, heated to create a two-tone effect that showcases the different phases of the moon.
