Lot Essay

The Lange 1, one of the first models introduced to commemorate the revival of the A. Lange & Söhne manufacture in the German watchmaking hub of Glashütte, has now become a design icon and a symbol of the brand's resurgence.

This platinum Lange 1 model with a dazzling baguette-cut diamond bezel was part of the early production models of the German icon. Launched in 1994, the early Lange 1 models can be identified by the sans serif font of the Made in Germany print on the dial.

Moreover, the gorgeous manual-winding movement, Cal. 901.0 was seen mainly on the early models that were fitted with a closed caseback. This caliber is the first movement built by A. Lange & Söhne in the modern era and featured characteristics that are now forever associated with the brand. These include a German Silver three-quarter plate, blued screws, gold chatons, Glashütte ribbing (similar to Geneva Stripes, but wider) and a hand-engraved balance cock.
