Lot Essay

The Baignoire was the first oval wristwatch made by Cartier and was the handiwork of Louis Cartier, grandson of the maison’s founder Louis-François Cartier. However, it was established as a collection only in 1958 and is distinguished by its contoured shape and proportions.

The present timepiece is based on a manual-winding wristwatch Cartier made in the 1960s. The oval diamond-set case and the oval-link bracelet bring a real sense of warmth and elegance to this timepiece. The watch can also be paired with a leather strap since the oval-link bracelet can be removed from the concealed lugs on the caseback.
