Lot Essay

While reversible case wristwatches have largely been associated with Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Reverso model, Cartier has also produced watches with reversible cases, the Basculante being the most prominent of them. However, in the 1960s, Cartier Paris produced the iconic Tank model with a reversible case too. The watch combined the Tank’s distinct design with the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso’s inventive case design.

The present timepiece with a Cartier Paris dial and French gold hallmark on the case is a rare example of the Tank with the reversible case that turns on the vertical plane unlike the Basculante. The white lacquer dial has classic layout with the railway track minute track and Roman numerals. French actor Alain Delon famously owned of these pieces, sold by Cartier Paris.
