Lot Essay

The present watch is one of the many special edition Chopard wristwatches that were produced to mark the 40th anniversary of the Libyan Revolution on September 1, 2009.

The luxury industry was still reeling from the effects of the global financial crisis in 2008 and this order for 250 limited edition watches from Chopard valued at around CHF 8 million represented a substantial chunk of business for the Swiss brand.

According to our research, several of the guests who attended the 40th anniversary celebrations in Tripoli were presented wristwatches like these from the Libyan government.
