Lot Essay

Founded in 1999 by legendary watchmaker François-Paul Journe, the namesake brand F.P. Journe has swiftly risen amongst the ranks as one of the most important independent brands, and without a question, has created some of the most desirable timepieces to covet.

Launched in 2005, the Centigraphe Souverain has a wonderful balance between “sportiness” and elegance, making the timepiece suitable to wear on any occasion. The complicated chronograph watch features oversized 1/100th of a second, 20 second, and 10 minute registers, which made it the first in the world to bestow this impressive mechanical complication. Upon activation via the patented chronograph “rocker” found between 2 and 3 o’clock, the hands charmingly “dance” around the dial. Powering the watch is an in-house, handcrafted movement which boasts an impressive 100-hour power reserve when the chronograph is at rest, and 24 hours when operated continuously.

The watch has a large crown distinctly positioned at 4 o’clock which adds to the timepiece’s vibrant, sporty aesthetic, but is elegantly elevated by its 40.5mm platinum case, and Journe’s signature thermally blued steel “teardrop” hands. The present lot is a wonderful timepiece to behold in the flesh and is fit for any serious watch collection.
