Lot Essay

A gorgeous example of a mid-century dress watch from Omega, the Cosmic Triple Calendar was produced between 1947 and 1956. The post-War era saw a boom in the production of elegant dress watches and this triple calendar with moon-phase model from Omega was bang on trend when it was launched in the late 1940s.

It was produced in various different sizes – 35 mm and 37 mm – and shapes. There were six references – Ref. 3606, 2471, 2473, 2485, 2486 and 3944. Preserved in excellent condition, the present watch is among the rare examples featuring eastern Arabic numerals and calendar indications in the Persian language. The silvered dial has an outer date ring in the same blue as the central date hand. The rose gold leaf-shaped hands echo the same colour tones of the bezel and lugs.

The watch was powered by Omega Calibre 381, which was rebadged Cal, 27 DL PC developed by Lemania. It’s worth mentioning here that in 1932, Tissot, Omega, and Lemania merged to form the SSIH (Société Suisse pour l'Industrie Horlogère). Lemania would produce movements for all three bands including the famous Cal. 321 used on the Omega Speedmaster Moonwatch.
Exotic and elegant, this is truly a rare opportunity for the discerning collector.
