OMEGA, A RARE AND ATTRACTIVE STEEL CHRONOGRAPH WITH GILT MULTISCALE DIAL
CASE NUMBER: 9’977’748, MOVEMENT NUMBER: 9’387’818
This here is an attractive example of a mid-century oversized chronograph made by Omega, possibly for military purposes. These ‘tool watches’ were purpose-built and mostly on request from the military.
The dials were clear and legible and printed with useful information like telemeter scales (helped artillery officers gauge how far the enemy guns were located) or tachymeter scales (to help measure speed) and even pulsometer scales (for field doctors to measure the pulse of patients).
These chronographs were fitted with the legendary Omega Cal. 33.3 CHRO, an achingly beautiful manual-winding chronograph movement which was derived from a Lemania movement and used by Omega and Tissot.
