Lot Essay

Created to mark the golden anniversary of the first moon landing, Omega’s Apollo 11 edition is presented in the brand’s proprietary 18k Moonshine gold alloy, which is paler than 18k yellow gold.

The watch itself is a modern remake of Ref. BA145.022, a limited edition gold Speedmaster that was produced in 1969 (1,014 pieces) to commemorate the successful Apollo 11 mission. While case numbers 1-33 were presented to various dignitaries including US President Richard Nixon and astronauts from the Apollo programme, numbers 33-1,000 were made available to the public. To this day, the original reference remains an extremely collectible Speedmaster.

The 50th anniversary remake is also limited to the same number has a few modern updates including a Master Chronometer movement and a ceramic bezel that features the famous marker dot above 90 (also known as “Dot Over 90”) seen on vintage models.

The present timepiece is unworn and has been consigned from the original owner and presents a good opportunity for collectors to pick up a fabulous modern chronograph with a strong link to the historic moment in mankind’s history.
