Lot Essay

In commemoration of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the United Arab Emirates, Panerai will launch a limited edition of 200 watches with the reference number PAM01971, a nod to the year the country was established.

Christie’s and Panerai are proud to offer a prototype of this reference, the entire proceeds of this sale will benefit Noor Dubai Foundation, a UAE-based charity focused on the prevention of blindness and visual impairment globally. The Foundation envisions a world where all individuals living in low income regions and suffering from visual disabilities have access to eye healthcare and are given equal and fair opportunities of treatment that will improve their quality of life.

The watch’s design codes borrow from the colours of the UAE flag - a green GMT hand and rubberized crown, a red running seconds hand, and a black sun-burst dial. In addition, the engraving on the caseback reads “Year of the Fiftieth” in English and Arabic.
