Reference 565, the first large water-resistant watch featuring a two-piece case with screw back and dust cover, was available with either subsidiary or sweep centre seconds (Ref. 565 SC). It was launched in 1938 and was produced till 1952 when it was replaced by the Ref. 2532.

The two-part case was made by Taubert, makers of the water-resistant cases for Patek references like the Ref. 1463, Ref. 96A, Ref. 1485, Ref. 1486 among others.

The present watch is part of the first series of production and Patek Philippe experts believe that total of 96 pieces of this kind were ever produced. The present watch’s dial also features the desirable Patek Philippe & Co. long signature, only seen on watches made before 1947.

The timelessly modern design of reference 565 served as inspiration for the creation of the 2006 stainless steel inaugural reference 5565.
