Created in 1976 by Gerald Genta, the Nautilus has become what some could describe as the most recognisable and sought-after watch in the world. Since 2006, the Reference 5711 has carried the flag for the Nautilus model and in some ways, Patek Philippe. It has certainly made Patek far more recognisable to non-aficionados and the wider market in general.

That being said, the present lot is one of the most special Nautilus 5711’s ever created. A very special edition of a handful of pieces only, this watch was only offered to VVIP’s of Patek Philippe; it was never available or even included in the public catalogue.

What truly sets this magnificent watch apart is its suitably weighty and substantial platinum case and bracelet. Furthermore, the bezel is tastefully set with 32 beautiful, perfectly proportioned baguette diamonds. On the side of the bezel at 6 o’clock is a small flawless diamond, a discreet demarcation that this watch was made in the most noble of metals.

This watch is a true ‘unicorn’ and is believed to be one of the very first to be offered on the private market. This could well remain the case for a very long time, indeed. It is most certainly not an opportunity to be missed.
