Lot Essay

The Nautilus reference 5711 was launched in 2006 and for the first six months, the first series of watches were presented with the 3 hz Cal. 315 SC movement, which was used in the Calatrava Ref. 3820 and the Ref. 5127.

Six months later, Patek Philippe equipped the 5711s with the new Cal. 324 SC, a 4 Hz movement. While it is not quite clear why the movement was swapped, the rumour is that the Cal. 324 SC was not ready in time for the launch of the reference 5711 and the Cal. 315 SC was meant to be an ad hoc arrangement.

It is believed that only around a 1,000 models of the 5711 exist with the Cal. 315 SC movement, making it a really rare and collectible variant of the Ref. 5711.
