PATEK PHILIPPE, PLATINUM CALATRAVA WITH CHAMPLEVÉ ENAMEL DIAL AND MATCHING CUFFLINGS, REF. 5088P-001
Fresh to the market, the present timepiece belongs to the rare handcrafts series produced in limited numbers by Patek Philippe. Furthermore, offered in excellent overall condition with a matching pair of cufflinks, Certificate of Origin and presentation box.
A timepiece in our days is no longer merely a time-telling instrument, it encompasses passion, power and a showmanship of technological innovations and traditional craftsmanship. Patek Philippe is indeed one of these historically important brands that has successfully brought new meaning to their timepieces by showcasing incessantly the skills of their diverse craftsmen - goldsmiths, gem-setters, enamellers which specialize in different enamel techniques - guillochée, cloisonné, champlevé and miniature painting, engravers, chainsmiths and spring-makers. The results of years of training, these skilled craftsmen blend technology and art to produce horological marvels which are universally admired for their virtuosity. Examples include pocket watches with miniature enamel paintings by Suzanne Rohr and the exquisite cloisonné and champlevé enamel dials that are a specialty at Patek Philippe. The present watch is a true display of craftsmanship combining the skills of an engraver and the art of champlevé enameling resulting in a stunning decoration of hand-engraved scrolls and champlevé black enamel dial and sides. This highly decorative wristwatch pays homage to Patek Philippe's devotion to preserving the traditions of hand-crafted timepieces. To the best of our knowledge, the present lot has never been offered in public before and it is only the seventh example appears in auction.
