Lot Essay

The Patek Philippe reference 3945 was introduced as a variant of the celebrated Ref. 3940, the noticeable difference between the two was that the former was offered exclusively with an integrated gold bracelet. The Ref. 3940 had lugs that accommodated a detachable leather strap.

Produced between 1985 and 1998, this timepiece finds a place amidst the most elegant perpetual calendar timepieces ever made by the brand. Reference 3945/1 was, like it’s sister reference 3940, produced in two distinct main series, distinguished by the leap year display: the first series with sunken leap year dial without “cross”, the second series showing a crossed leap year such as the present watch.

Beginning production in yellow gold, the model was produced in pink gold and white gold beginning in 1988 and so far no platinum versions are known to the market. Less than a handful of pink gold versions are known making this a very special opportunity for the discerning collector.
