Lot Essay

Unlike a perpetual calendar which requires no manual adjusting to keep correct time and date, the annual calendar complication needs one correction a year when February turns into March.

This complication was introduced by Patek Philippe with the reference 5035 in 1996 and was offered initially in yellow gold but the range expanded to include pink, white gold and platinum. Later models were also presented with a moon-phase indication at 6 o’ clock instead of the 24-hour indicator and power reserve.

This reference stayed in production from 1996 to 2005 and remained one of the flagship complicated models for the brand till it was replaced by the Ref. 5146.
