Reference 5270 was introduced to the market at Basel World in April 2011 and replaced the celebrated reference 5970. This was the first perpetual calendar chronograph from Patek Philippe to use a completely on-house made manufacture movement, the calibre 29-535 PS with Patek Philippe's new hallmark of excellence, the PP Seal.

In 2009, Patek Philippe created a new quality benchmark for its mechanical timepieces: the Patek Philippe Seal.
