RICHARD MILLE, RM030 Ti, AN AUTOMATIC TITANIUM SKELETONISED WRISTWATCH
The overarching characteristic of the RM30 is that it houses the Caliber RMAR1 which boasts remarkable progression in the field of automatic winding. The de-clutchable rotor is a development that took Richard Mille many years to perfect but that allows for ultimate precision. Automatic watches have rotors which are wound consistently with the movement of the wearer’s wrist.
The rotations provide energy to the winding barrel which stops once it has reached its optimal point. To avoid overwinding, the traditional sliding flange allows the spring to slip which avoids the movement becoming overwound.
Richard Mille have developed a mechanism where the rotor de-clutches automatically once the spring is fully wound, at 50 hours power reserve. When the power reserve decreases to 40 hours, the clutch is reengaged and the phases can be viewed on the dial indicator at 12 o’clock.
As with the movement, the case has been perfected with ultimate precision. Over 250 tooling operations were carried out and multiple hours of glazing and polishing. Even the ‘Richard Mille’ engraving to the inside of the curved back takes over two days to complete. With a distinguishable design, the RM030 is a pioneering masterpiece from the celebrated manufacturer.
