The Rolex Ref. 66XX represent the second generation of the brand’s flagship Day-Date models. This was the first dial to feature “Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified” legend on the dial, the first generation Day-Dates models (references 6510 and 6511) carried the text ‘Officially Certified Chronometer’. The Ref. 66XX series featured the 6611 featuring a ribbed bezel, 6612 (smooth bezel), and 6613 (diamond-set bezel). The Ref. 6613 is an extremely rare variant of the Day-Date and is highly sought-after by the most seasoned vintage Rolex collectors.
What makes the present reference special is the fact that though the case identifies the watch as a 6612 between the lugs, the inside caseback carries the ‘6612’ and ‘6613’ engraving. The possible explanation is that this watch was made as a special request. The timepiece itself is spectacular – a platinum case with a diamond-set bezel and paired with a platinum Rolex President bracelet. The black glossy lacquer dial is further distinguished by a diamond-set hour markers and alpha hands.
