Lot Essay

Offered in extremely good overall condition, the present reference is part of the rarest jewellery-set iterations of the Rolex Daytona chronograph. Crafted out of 18k gold, the timepiece participated in defying the idea that sports watches were bound to be manufactured in steel.

Reference 16568 can be considered a direct descendant of reference 6270, the rarest manually wound Daytona. The defining feature of both models is, in fact, the baguette-cut diamond-set bezel. The main differences, instead, beyond the case modifications, are the twelve gold bars on the bezel - which function as numerals as well as aesthetic details - and the gem-set numerals: while ref. 6270 usually presents rubies the same size of the diamonds used for the pavé, the present watch has bigger gems, emeralds in this case, mounted on a square gold frame. The final result is absolutely stunning.

Manufactured with the now legendary Zenith ‘El Primero’ movement, Rolex’s first automatic movement, the chronograph is bestowed with a magnificent diamond-set dial with emeralds set in yellow gold chatons. Alluding to previous jewellery-set references such as the now iconic reference 6270, the chronograph epitomizes the savoir-faire of the Rolex manufacture.
