Lot Essay

This early variant of the Tudor Monte Carlo Ref.7169 can be found with a very attractive and nicely patina-ed pale grey and black dial. The addition of the orange to the dial gives it a sportiness which is very appealing.

The 40mm stainless steel case is finished with bold square crown guards and 7 mm chronograph pushers. This comes from the era when Rolex was making a much smaller Daytona, thus somewhat defining the later look of the Daytona.

With the caseback stamped ‘Original Oyster Case By Rolex Geneva’, this present wristwatch is very much a Rolex in body but the playful and colourful dial gives it a flare which Daytona’s at the time didn’t have quite so much.

The original Ref. 7169 were fitted with black 12-hour bezel insert, but this reference has a black tachymeter bezel from Ref. 7149.
