Lot Essay

Ulysse Nardin introduced The Trilogy of Time collection in 1985 inspired by the works of the three legendary astronomers – Galileo Galilei, Nicolaus Copernicus, and Johannes Kepler.

The first wristwatch in the trilogy was introduced in 1985 – the Astrolabium Galileo Galilei is essentially an astrolabe clock on the wrist. It was designed to indicate the position of the Sun, the Moon and the Stars from anywhere on earth.

It could also specify sunrise / sunset, moon phases, and eclipses among other astronomical complications. It was so complex that it even got a mention in the Guinness Book of World Records in 1989.
