Lot Essay

Introduced in 2017, this was the first steel Vacheron Constantin Cornes de Vaches chronograph produced in the modern era. This vintage-inspired timepiece is inspired by a manual-wound chronograph made in the 1950s by the Geneva maison. The name “Cornes de Vaches” is French for “Cow Horns” and is a reference to the design of the lugs.

The modern iteration of this chronograph was first presented in 2015 in a platinum case and was followed by a rose gold version in 2016. A year later, the NYC-based Hodinkee introduced this Cornes de Vaches limited edition in stainless steel, fitted with their characteristic slate grey dial with a pulsation scale.

The watch was powered by the manual-wound Cal. 1142, which was based on the legendary Lemania 2310, arguably the most famous chronograph movement ever made. Replete with mid-century vintage chronograph styling, this timepiece was limited to just 36 pieces and all of them where spoken for very quickly upon reveal.
