Pascal Coyon, a watch and clock repairer based in Bayonne, in the southwest of France, is part of a new wave of independent artisanal watchmakers dedicated to creating exquisitely crafted, classically inspired timepieces. In 2012, he set out to develop his own chronometer wristwatch, and after a year and a half of meticulous work, he unveiled his first prototype.

His vision was to offer a wristwatch with an extraordinary level of finishing while remaining relatively affordable. To achieve this, he used the renowned Unitas 6498 as a base movement. However, the modifications were so extensive that the movement became virtually unrecognizable. The attention to detail is evident in the elegantly curved bridges, highly polished angles, a distinctive comma-shaped regulator index for precise micro-metric adjustments, and the refined sandblasted finish applied across the movement.

Coyon produced a total of 60 movements, divided equally into three finishes: silver, pink, and yellow - the latter being the finish of this particular example. The watches were paired with white lacquer dials, available either with or without a red twelve, a subtle nod to classic design elements.

A closer examination of the movement reveals a viper’s head stamp at the base of the balance cock, signifying that the watch successfully passed the stringent Besançon Observatory chronometer trials—further testament to Coyon’s dedication to precision and craftsmanship.
